#COMPASSION4LEONARD

Urgent Update:

Help our relative Leonard Peltier and urge U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland at the Department of Justice to support a compassionate release.

Leonard Peltier is a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians (ND), an activist, a member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), and the longest-serving (48 years) Indigenous political prisoner in United States history.

Compassionate release is a process in which incarcerated relatives may seek early release, due to "particularly extraordinary or compelling circumstances which the court could not have reasonably foreseen at the time of sentencing" (United States Bureau of Prisons) such as terminal illness or advancing age. Our request for his compassionate release is a plea for healing and reconciliation as much as it is a call for justice.
