#COMPASSION4LEONARD
Urgent Update:
Help our relative Leonard Peltier and urge U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland at the Department of Justice to support a compassionate release.
Leonard Peltier is a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians (ND), an activist, a member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), and the longest-serving (48 years) Indigenous political prisoner in United States history.
Compassionate release is a process in which incarcerated relatives may seek early release, due to "particularly extraordinary or compelling circumstances which the court could not have reasonably foreseen at the time of sentencing" (United States Bureau of Prisons) such as terminal illness or advancing age. Our request for his compassionate release is a plea for healing and reconciliation as much as it is a call for justice.
HERE'S HOW YOU CAN TAKE ACTION:
Call The Department of Justice asking Attorney General Garland to support the compassionate release of Leonard Peltier: (202) 353-1555
SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR TELEPHONE CALL: Hello, my name is ______, and I am a constituent of [insert state]. I am asking for your public support of Leonard Peltier’s compassionate release due to his declining health and well-being. He suffers from a number of chronic health conditions, including loss of vision, and requires ongoing treatment. His health is worsening and he may die in prison if we do not act quickly. If Leonard is released, he can get the proper healthcare and support from his family and community. In his current state, Leonard is eligible for the compassionate release program. Attorney General Garland must act now to urge the Bureau of Prisons to grant his application for compassionate release. Enough is enough!

Subject: Immediate Action Needed: Compassionate Release for Leonard Peltier
Dear [Representative Name],
I am writing with an urgent demand for immediate action regarding Leonard Peltier's deteriorating health conditions. Leonard, who is nearly 80 years old, is suffering from severe health issues including kidney disease, heart condition, diabetes, and more. He urgently requires medical attention, which has been neglected for too long.
The delay in providing Leonard with essential medical care is a death sentence. I ask that you support his immediate compassionate release so he can receive healthcare outside of prison and be with loved ones and his community. Continuing his incarceration under these conditions is inhumane a death sentence.
Signed
